The safari booking market has a structural problem that nobody likes to discuss: the majority of operators selling African safaris have never visited most of the places they’re selling. They work from bed nights, commission rates, and supplier relationships — all legitimate business practices — but they cannot answer the questions that actually matter to guests who want to know what a specific experience is genuinely like.

The Questions That Reveal Whether Your Operator Knows Zimbabwe

“When were you last in Zimbabwe?” This is the most important question. A good operator will have been in the field within the last 18 months. An operator who cannot answer this is selling on reputation and commission, not knowledge.

“Which specific guide would we be walking with in Mana Pools?” The quality variance between Zimbabwe guides is enormous. An operator who can name a specific guide and explain why that guide is exceptional is operating at a different level from one who says “you’ll be allocated to one of our experienced guides.”

The ZimTravellers Difference

ZimTravellers was built on a single principle: the operators selling Zimbabwe should live and work here. Josh Elliott has lived in Zimbabwe all his life. His father Alan Elliott has been guiding Zimbabwe’s wilderness for over 40 years. We own properties in Matobo Hills and Khami — which means our advice on those areas comes with the accountability of ownership. We are not selling a bed night. We are building a long-term business on repeat guests and referrals, which means every recommendation has our reputation attached to it.
