Zimbabwe’s visa process is more straightforward than its reputation suggests. Most European and Scandinavian passport holders have multiple options for entry, and the process has been streamlined significantly since the introduction of the e-visa system.

Do Scandinavians and Europeans Need a Visa for Zimbabwe?

Yes. Zimbabwe requires visas for most nationalities, including all European and Scandinavian passport holders. However, obtaining one is simple and can be done before departure or on arrival.

The E-Visa: Apply Before You Travel

Zimbabwe’s e-visa system (evisa.zinara.co.zw) allows you to apply online before departure and receive a visa approval by email. Arrival ports where the e-visa can be collected include Harare International Airport, Victoria Falls Airport, and the main border crossings with South Africa, Zambia, and Botswana.

Single entry visa: $30 USD (most European nationalities). Double entry: $45 USD. Processing typically takes 24–48 hours. Apply a minimum of 3 business days before travel to allow for any processing delays.

The KAZA UniVisa: Best Option for Victoria Falls Visitors

If your itinerary includes both Zimbabwe and Zambia — which it almost certainly does if you are visiting Victoria Falls, which straddles both countries — the KAZA UniVisa is the most cost-effective option. For $50 USD, it covers entry into both Zimbabwe and Zambia, plus day trips between the two countries, for a 30-day period.

The KAZA UniVisa is available on arrival at Victoria Falls Airport and Livingstone Airport (Zambia), and at the Victoria Falls/Livingstone border crossing. It cannot currently be obtained in advance via e-visa.

Visa on Arrival

Zimbabwe also offers visa on arrival for most European passport holders. This is the simplest option if you have not applied in advance — queue at immigration, pay in USD cash (exact amount appreciated but not required), receive your stamp. Lines at Victoria Falls Airport are generally short. Harare can be busier.

Important Practical Notes

Carry USD cash for visa payment. Cards are not accepted at all entry points. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended date of departure from Zimbabwe. Ensure you have at least two blank pages in your passport.

Zimbabwe’s Yellow Fever vaccination certificate requirement applies only to travellers arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission (primarily West and Central Africa). European and Scandinavian travellers arriving directly from Europe or Johannesburg do not require this certificate.

We provide all guests with a pre-departure information pack covering visa, vaccination, currency, and arrival logistics specific to their itinerary.
