Civic Bulawayo and a hosted visit to its oldest township

Overview

Bulawayo carries its history in plain sight: the widest streets in the country (laid out so a full ox-wagon span could turn), City Hall, the Joshua Nkomo statue, and the railway and industrial quarters that made this the workshop of a nation. This private four-hour tour pairs the civic centre with Makokoba, the city's oldest township — visited properly, with a local host, agreed stops at a market or workshop, and clear ground rules on photography and consent. You are a guest there, not a spectator, and the visit is structured so the host and community benefit directly from your booking. Expect architecture, music history, food if you want it, and straight answers to hard questions. Availability and the Makokoba hosting arrangement are confirmed within 24 hours of booking.

The day

How the day runs.

Civic landmarks and the lived history of Makokoba, with a local host and a clear code of respect.

Civic centre and Makokoba

Pickup from your Bulawayo hotel. The first half covers the city centre on foot and by vehicle — City Hall, the Nkomo statue, key railway-era buildings. The second half is the hosted Makokoba visit: your host leads the route, introduces the stops, and handles market purchases fairly. A refreshment stop closes the tour where time allows.
