Overview

About This Experience

The only circuit in Zimbabwe that takes you to all three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the south-west — with owner-operated accommodation at every stop. Begin amid the stone towers of Great Zimbabwe, the ruins that gave the country its name. Travel to Khami, a private 6,500-acre wilderness where leopard move through the bush and ancient stone walls rise from the granite. Complete the journey at Matobo Hills, tracking white rhino on foot across one of Africa's most spiritual landscapes. No international operator can assemble this route from lodges they own. We can.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

The only circuit in Zimbabwe that takes you to all three UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the south-west — with owner-operated accommodation at every stop. Begin amid the stone tower. The journey begins in Harare or Masvingo and ends in Bulawayo.

1
Day 1
Arrive Masvingo — Great Zimbabwe
Fly or drive to Masvingo and transfer to Lodge at the Ancient City. Check in and take an afternoon orientation walk around the outer enclosures of Great Zimbabwe — the largest ancient stone structure in sub-Saharan Africa. Sundowner on the lawn as the walls turn gold at dusk. Dinner at the lodge.
2
Day 2
Great Zimbabwe — Full Day
A full day with a specialist guide exploring every precinct of the ruins: the Valley Ruins, the Great Enclosure, and the Hill Complex. Understand the civilisation that built this empire between the 11th and 15th centuries. Afternoon free to swim or read. A second sunset at the ruins — the light at this hour is unlike anything else in Zimbabwe.
3
Day 3
Great Zimbabwe to Khami Lodge
Morning departure west towards Bulawayo. Arrive Khami Lodge in time for a late lunch. The estate covers 6,500 acres of private game wilderness adjacent to Khami Ruins UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afternoon game drive across the property — plains game, dams, and leopard territory. Sundowner in the bush. Dinner under the stars.
4
Day 4
Khami — Ruins Walk & Leopard Tracking
Early morning leopard track on foot — your guide reads the signs left overnight across the estate. Return to camp for breakfast. Late morning guided walk through Khami Ruins — the second-largest stone ruins in Zimbabwe, almost entirely without crowds. Afternoon at leisure on the estate. Evening game drive to the dams.
5
Day 5
Khami to Matobo Hills
After breakfast, transfer north to Matobo National Park — a UNESCO World Heritage Site of ancient granite, rock art caves, and Africa's highest density of leopard. Check in to Matobo Hills Lodge, the only privately owned lodge with an address inside the park. Afternoon game drive with your resident guide. First sighting of the granite skyline at sunset.
6
Day 6
Matobo — White Rhino on Foot & Rock Art
Pre-dawn start for white rhino tracking — on foot, with a tracker and armed ranger. The Matobo rhino population is thriving and encounters are close. Return to camp for a late breakfast. After rest, visit the San Bushman cave art sites — some of the finest rock paintings in Africa, some more than 2,000 years old. Sunset from a granite dome above the lodge.
7
Day 7
Matobo — Full Day & Departure
Final morning game drive or a walk to the Cecil Rhodes memorial at World's View. Transfer to Bulawayo for onward connections, or extend your stay at Matobo Hills Lodge.
